ANECDOTE

Upeksha's opening scene features the introduction to the "Golden Record".

The "golden record" is a phonograph record that was included aboard the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft, which were launched by NASA in 1977 to explore the outer solar system and beyond. The record contains sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth, and to provide information about our planet to any extraterrestrial intelligence that might discover the spacecraft.

The record includes a wide range of images, music, and spoken messages in multiple languages as well as diagrams and scientific information about Earth and its place in the solar system.

The golden record was designed to be durable and capable of surviving for billions of years in the harsh environment of interstellar space. It is made of copper and plated with gold, and includes instructions on how to play it.

Although the chances of the record being discovered and played by an extraterrestrial civilization are extremely small, it remains a symbol of humanity's curiosity and desire to explore the unknown.

Reflecting on the "Golden Record" gives us an opportunity to think about our place in the universe.
Seeing Earth from afar reminds us that we are small in the grand scheme of things.
Though we may have our differences, we all live on the same speck of dust, floating in the vastness of space.
